Our next club president, Steve Van Dorn, attended the District 5017 Conference today in Mountain View (April 29, 2023) at the Computer History Museum.

The Rotary Club of Pleasanton partnered with the Rotary Club (RC) of Accra East in Ghana on this Water & Sanitation, Hygiene (WASH) Project, to create a bathroom facility at Agbodekor Primary School in Attiavi, located in the Volta Region. They constructed a 12 toilet  & 5 sink facility for the 500 students & staff, who at present have no bathroom facilities. This Club 2 Club Project will reduce sanitation illnesses, improve school attendance & retention, improve hygiene & cleanliness, and improve the overall sanitation within the village of Attiavl.  (Only 15% of Ghanians have toilets in their homes & there are no public toilets.)  Our club partnered with them for $10,000 while 2 other local Rotary Clubs contributed $3,647, and the RC Accra East contributed $4,100, totaling $17,747. The project was completed on June 11, 2022.
On May 26 & June 1 the Rotary Club of Pleasanton awarded $54,000 to 14 local high school students and on June 21 awarded $22,500 to local college students who needed financial assistance. All students completed the application and interview process. They were rated on a 5 point scale: Financial Need, Presentation, Future Prospects and Community Service/Leadership.  All students were very deserving. Most of the funds for these scholarships were raised through the October Spirit Run held annually in Pleasanton.

The Rotary Club of Pleasanton was awarded a 5170 District Grant of approximately $4,000 to financially assist with a WASH Project at St. Josephs’ Girls College in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria. Our club partnered with the RC of Eziama Sunrise to construct a new 6 room modern toilet facility with 2 storage tanks. It was completed and handed over to the school on May 26, 2022.

THE ROTARY CLUB OF PLEASANTON FOUNDATION AWARDS $36,600 TO 22 LOCAL NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

On April 7, 2022, the Rotary Club of Pleasanton Foundation presented grant checks to 10 of the 22 organizations that were selected to receive funds from the Foundation.  A total of $36,600 was awarded to the very worthwhile organizations that are listed below.  Grant applications were evaluated based on the lasting impact of the project, what is their involvement with the Rotary Club of Pleasanton, how will the project support Rotary’s mission and will the funding be instrumental to the organization in completing their project.  With the challenges of the pandemic still very much a part of our community, the organization representatives made it clear in their comments that these funds will go a long way in helping those that are still struggling.

From Rotary International:

"The Rotary Foundation has created an official channel for Rotary members and other donors around the world to contribute funds to support relief efforts underway by Rotary districts. The Foundation has designated the Disaster Response Fund as the main avenue for this.

Thanks to the generosity of Rotary members and others, as of 18 March, the fund has received more than $3.2 million in contributions. These funds are being distributed to Rotary districts that apply for Disaster Response grants and will be used to provide relief to refugees or other victims of the crisis, including items such as water, food, shelter, medicine, and clothing."

Sleep in Heavenly Peace  This was an Area 4 project on March 19, 2022 at the Crosswinds Church property in Livermore.  Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a non-profit organization that provides beds for children who need beds.  They are a nationwide organization and we worked with the Alameda County chapter.  This project involved two teams one at 8am and one at 10:30am working on building the component pieces that are used to make the beds.
Goodness Village Mural Project:  Goodness Village is a 28 tiny home community in Livermore on the Crosswinds Church property.  This project on March 12, 2022 involved painting three murals on trailers within the community.  Professional muralists drew the designs on the trailer and the volunteers did essentially a "paint by numbers" project filling in the appropriate color in each of the outlined sections.  After all the background colors were painted, the muralists filled in the murals with the fine detailed designs.

ROTARY CLUB OF PLEASANTON RECEIVES DISTRICT GRANT FOR WASH PROJECT

The Rotary Club of Pleasanton has partnered with the Rotary Club of Eziama-Sunrise In Nigeria to provide a new 6 room modern toilet facility at St. Joseph’s Girls’ College in Aba, Nigeria. It will also build and provide overhead water storage tanks, water distribution and install water fetching points, along with WASH Training for staff and students. The school has 700 girls and the existing toilet facility is too small for boarding and day students. Open defecation is common practice.

Thank you to all who came out to help for Rotary Gives Thanks!!

And Thanks to all the Senior Citizens of our community who have done so much for Pleasanton over the years.  It is our pleasure to visit and perform a few odd jobs for you!
