PUSD Foster and Kinship Program

Brenda Montgomery-Telfor began working as a Youth Development Specialist, advocating for the Foster and Kinship students and families for the Pleasanton Unified School District, (PUSD) November, 2014.  This position started as a brand new “grass roots” position and very quickly evolved.  Within her tenure at PUSD, she has created several programs under the umbrella of the Foster and Kinship program assisting the 120 plus students and families, including but not limited to the CPR program which is a College/Career Preparation and Readiness Program.

Prior to Mrs. Montgomery joining PUSD, she taught Sociology, Psychology and Child Growth and Development for 3 years as adjunct Faculty at Ohlone College at all the campuses (Fremont, Newark and the cloud campuses).

She also worked for two fortune 500 companies for over 20 plus years and held various positions including, senior management.

In 2009, Mrs. Montgomery founded SMAS, a non-profit foundation for Single Moms Raising Boys Alone.   She founded this foundation offering help and support groups for single and/or divorced mom’s as well as scholarships for their sons.

Ms. Montgomery holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Notre Dame de Namur and an undergraduate degree in Social Work from San Jose State University.  She is currently an AMFT (Associate Marriage and Family Therapist).  She re-married three years ago after raising her son as a divorced mom since he was five years’ old, who is now a senor in college at San Francisco State University and doing well with his studies and internships while managing to also be on the Dean’s list as a BECA (Broadcasting Electronic Communication Arts) major.

Mrs. Montgomery has a HUGE passion and affinity to helping the underserved which she can relate, due to her birth defect at birth.  In spite of her challenges with bullying all throughout childhood (TK-12) grades in school, she has been able to overcome numerous obstacles and is now claiming her life’s purpose which is to advocate and help those that are often overlooked as well as those that just need a positive boost.  She enjoys reading and collecting positive motivation books as well spending quality time with her family and friends.
