ROTARY CLUB OF PLEASANTON RECEIVES DISTRICT GRANT FOR WASH PROJECT

The Rotary Club of Pleasanton has partnered with the Rotary Club of Eziama-Sunrise In Nigeria to provide a new 6 room modern toilet facility at St. Joseph’s Girls’ College in Aba, Nigeria. It will also build and provide overhead water storage tanks, water distribution and install water fetching points, along with WASH Training for staff and students. The school has 700 girls and the existing toilet facility is too small for boarding and day students. Open defecation is common practice.
This project, when completed, will provide a modern toilet facility as well as safe drinking water. It will help provide a safe and healthy learning environment, reduce disease caused by contaminated water, improve student attendance and academic performance. The budget for this project is $16,950 with the RC Eziama-Sunrise providing $2,550 and RC Pleasanton providing $14,400. The District Grant will provide $4,100 of this amount with the club raising the additional $10,300. This project will begin in January 2022 and will be completed in 6 months.
